Shaheed-e-Azad Bhagat Singh
This was the first film that depicted the sacrifices and the life of the freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh. The film featured P.Jairaj as the lead character and was released in the year 1954. The movie also starred the popular yesteryear comedian, Johnny Walker as well. Shaheed-e-Azad Bhagat Singh was successful in reflecting the life of the hero and how he played a vital role in India’s struggle for independence.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh
The movie released in 1963 with Shammi Kapoor playing the role of Bhagat Singh. It was the time when the Hindi cinema industry started appreciating the new talent in the form of Shammi Kapoor. The movie featured some well known and popular faces like Achla Sachdev, Premnath, Shakeela, Ulhas and K N Bansal was the director. Despite the star cast the movie couldn’t do well at the box office.
Shaheed starring Manoj Kumar was released in 1965 and bagged the film the National Award for Best Film in Hindi. Moreover, the film also gave Manoj Kumar the fame of a “patriotic actor” and the film did quite well at the box office.
The Legend of Bhagat Singh
Ajay Devgan played the protagonist character and the movie was directed by the talented Rajkumar Santsohi. This is the best known film on the heroic freedom fighter. The film released on June 7th, 2002 with a mixed response at the box office. But, this moved bagged the National Award for the Best Film in Hindi, along with the Best Actor. The movie was honored with several other awards as well.
23rd March 1931:Shaheed
Yesteryear actor, Dharmendra produced the movie casting his younger son, Bobby Deol as Bhagat Singh. The movie clashed with another Bhagat Singh movie starring Ajay Devgan, but unfortunately it didn’t make a niche. Apart from its performance at the box office, the movie was critically acclaimed and Bobby Deol was also praised for his extraordinary acting. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sunny Deol were also a part of the movie.
This was yet another film that was scheduled for release with the other two movies, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and 23rd March 1931: Shaheed. However the director, Anand Sagar and the producer, Ramanand Sagar decided to release it as a television series.
This was the third film that was scheduled for release on June 7th, 2002, starring a newbie in the industry, Sonu Sood as Bhagat Singh. The movie was released later on, but unfortunately it failed at the box office and went unnoticed. This has been perhaps the first ever Hindi movie that was also launched in Pakistan. The movie was based on the research work done by the nephew of the freedom fighter, Professor Jagmohan Singh.
Some other works
